Word for the day

10/2/ 24

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:3

Last year some friends gave us some trees. While I took great care as to where I planted them and I thought I was faithfully watering them, obviously I was not faithful enough. They died! Imagine planting a tree that you never have to water, that continually produces its fruit every season and It's leaf never withers.

The "He" in verse 3 is the person that delights in the law of the Lord and meditates in it day and night. When one meditates in the word of God, he is in a constant state of being watered. He produces beautiful fruit and like Isaiah 40:31 says; "those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint."

On the contrary those who have no time for God and His word are classified as the "ungodly" and are like chaff which the wind drives away. If you live in Iowa you're acquainted with the winds that come with every change of season. The autumn winds move leaves around as they fall off trees. Those who are not rooted in the word of God are moved about like those leaves, tossed here, driven there.

The Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Thank You Heavenly Father for the vivid clarity of this passage. May we be those who "delight" in Your word. May we find in it the watering of our souls that we may stand strong and produce fruit glorifying to You. In Jesus name AMEN.
