Word for the day

5/10/24

If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with him. John 14:24

The same word used for "our home" here John used in other places in his gospel and it means abiding place.

So Jesus is giving witness to God being a triune God made up of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is giving assurance to His disciples, just 10-12 hours before He was to be crucified, that they would never be alone.

The children of God are never without His presence in their life. Isaiah the prophet said whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "this is the way; walk in it."

We are living in a day in which this prophecy has been fulfilled. Jesus described the third person of the trinity as a Helper, a Comforter, an Advocate, who would guide His children into all truth.

The struggle for most of us, if we are honest, is sensing in the moment His very real and present voice, saying this is the way walk in it. Some might say God doesn't speak to us that way today, we have His completed written word and that is the only way He speaks to us.

When I was a salesman years ago traveling many miles a day, I would occasionally pass a hitchhiker or a vehicle setting alongside the road. I developed the habit as soon as I saw them ahead of asking the Lord, is this somebody that you would have me stop and help? Without fail as I drove by the person the Lord either compelled me to stop or in some cases keep going.

I have to admit I would much rather be in the backseat and have Him driving and He just just pull over so I could get out, but that isn't how He works. He abides within us to guide us in all truth, to say; this is the way walk in it after we have gone to the right or gone to the left. There are times that He simply lets us know we're not on the right path and redirects our steps.

Our role is to be living a life where we are consistently in His word, we are consistently in the posture of prayer, we are consistently inviting His direction and listening for His voice throughout our day. Seeking Him first....

Heavenly Father help us today to be listening for Your often quiet voice speaking into our lives. Help us sense Your leading. May we be in Your word so we are sure we are not listening to a false voice of which there are many. Thank You for abiding with us today. Thank You for giving us Your word which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN.
